Presentation Technology News – The Name’s 15, Office 15.

Tuesday, January 31st, 2012 by Simon Morton

Microsoft has kicked off the Technical Preview of the next itineration of its Office suite, code name ‘Office 15’. The Technical Preview will be followed by the Public Beta which is expected to be sometime this summer…

The Public Beta will provide access to millions of users and people are already itching to get their hands on it. The testing timescale is leading to speculation that ‘Office 15’ may hit the high street as early as December 2012, probably branded as ‘Office 2013’.

With the Windows XP operating system scheduled for retirement in April 2014 there is also a buzz that Microsoft may go for a joint launch with a new operating system (as they did in 2007). Exciting stuff, but in a World where it’s almost impossible to contain that sort of information in anything more reliable than a tea bag, the lack of whispers makes me wonder if that’s just wishful thinking.

PJ Hough, CVP of Development, Microsoft Office Division blogged about the latest development on Monday saying “I’m not able to share too much about Office 15, but I can tell you, Office 15 is the most ambitious undertaking yet for the Office Division. With Office 15, for the first time ever, we will simultaneously update our cloud services, servers, and mobile and PC clients for Office, Office 365, Exchange, SharePoint, Lync, Project, and Visio.”

As always we will continue to scan the ether (and sweet talk our friends at Microsoft) for more rumours and whispers and we’ll be the first to let you know what this means for your presentations.
